Hundreds of days and thousands of miles into exile, Vara’s finally found something worth holding on to. But can she?
When Vara set out to cross a dead continent, she had no clue what she’d find or even what she wanted. She was running from herself more than toward anything. At journey’s end, scarred but whole, she knows what she wants. It’s within reach.
But the MX doesn’t work that way. It takes dreams and grinds them to dust. As Vara’s past threatens to steal her future, she does what she’s always done. She runs. It’s second nature. Maybe it’s time to accept that the wasteland is her home and always will be. After all, it’s done everything it could to break her and hasn’t succeeded.
Yet. The MX is never short on cruelty, and time is on its side. It gets to leave you for dead as many times as it takes until you don’t get up again. Its agents of destruction take unexpected forms. Even bastions of so-called civilization mask naked brutality and cold calculation.
Good people exist too. Vara’s not sure whether she’s one of them, but she wants to live as they do. To achieve that, she’ll have to get up one more time. Then again. And again. Until the world is done trying to break her.
The initial 4-book arc of The MX reaches its epic keffing conclusion with an ending that may make it hard for you to stand up again.
