تؤرخ هذه الروايه الاجتماعيه لأحداث المدينه العتيقه التاريخيه (بخارا) – من أقدم مدن أوزبكستان الحاليه فى الربع الأول للقرن العشرين– من خلال سيره مرابٍ يتصور فساد بعض رجال الدين، بدايهً من هذا المرابى حتى نائب كبير القضاه وكبير القضاه- الذين كانوا يتحكمون فى القضاء إذ ذاك- وتعاونهم مع كبار التجار بالمدينه وكبار ملاك الأراضى بالقرى، وارتباط الفريقين بالحكام والمسئولين من الشرطه وجنود الأمير الذين يحمونها ويتقاسمون عرق الفقراء فى المدن والقرى.
