It’s 1966. I tried to enlist in the Air Force, but the papers for my draft came in first. Never one to back down I stepped up and joined the elite ranks of the 2/327 infantry battalion 1st Brigade 101st Airborne Division. You will read about endless patrols, ambushes, and guard duty sprinkled with devastating battles or close calls where I was only a few steps from being the unlucky one. All while surviving the oppressive heat, diseases, wildlife and all consuming sense of fear from a country making it very clear we were unwanted. It wasn't all bad, you'll also find out about the mundane happenings at base, in town or a secure position. This was the life of a drafted grunt with no authority in an Army only interested in the body count.
