There are so many reasons to be angry after the devastating discovery of being betrayed and deceived by the person you trusted the most with your heart, your body and mind, and your life. Eighty-four percent of betrayed partners who participated in a Betrayal Trauma Anger survey reported the anger they experienced after discovery was more intense than at any other time in their life. Experiencing a combination of PTSD symptoms, broken relational attachment, and complex anger all happening at the same time can cause you to feel like you are going crazy. You may find yourself behaving in ways that are completely outside of your normal character.
Dr. Hollenbeck writes with both professionalism and warm compassion. Her research, personal experience, and professional expertise bring validation, research based information, and hope to the reader. This book is a valuable resource for the betrayed and betrayer as well as the helping profession and is divided into three parts.
Part I is entitled Betrayal Trauma and provides an overview of discovery, disclosure, and the devastating and traumatic impact betrayal can bring. A guideline of what to expect in the therapeutic journey including a recommended therapeutic treatment plan for betrayal trauma and information to help you identify complex trauma are also included.
Part II, Betrayal Trauma Anger will review and validate the many reasons to be angry after discovering betrayal, share information from survey respondents related to how your betrayer can impact your anger during the healing process, and discuss what is happening in the brain and body when you are experiencing anger. Dr. Hollenbeck shares the SCIP Protocol she created that when applied, only takes a few minutes to calm the brain and nervous system and process your anger.
Part III, entitled Betrayal Trauma Anger CALMING Phases™ validates the multiple phases a betrayed partner experiences and provides an abundance of techniques to help you process anger as you navigate the aftermath of discovering betrayal and find validation as to how anger can be unpredictable and complex.
